Can't store files with restricted characters

Post by neur0m4ncer » Mon Aug 04, 2025 12:51 pm

Just tried to back up a couple of folders, and get repeated messages telling my my filenames have restricted characters... is there any way around this? If not then surely this is a MASSIVE limitation of the platform.

Hello Blomper,

Thank you for reaching out! We’re sorry for the trouble you’re experiencing while uploading your files.

I understand that the issue with not allowing special characters in your file name can feel limiting, but this is actually a common restriction across most cloud storage platforms.

The reason is that certain special characters — like /, , ?, *, and : — have special meanings in computer file systems and operating systems.
If they’re allowed in file names, they can cause errors when files are synced, opened, or shared between different devices and systems.
By keeping filenames to letters, numbers, spaces, and dashes/underscores, we make sure your files stay safe and accessible everywhere.

To resolve this, please try renaming your files, using only letters, numbers, dashes (-), or underscores (_, and then attempt to upload them again.

If you continue to run into issues, feel free to reach out. We’re happy to assist further!

Warm regards,
